Francesco Hayez


Nacque in una famiglia di condizioni modeste. Il padre Giovanni era di origini francesi; la madre, Chiara Torcella, veniva da Murano. Il piccolo Francesco, ultimo di cinque figli, venne affidato ad una sorella della madre che aveva sposato Giovanni Binasco, armatore e mercante d'arte proprietario di una discreta collezione di dipinti. Già da piccolo mostrò una predisposizione per il disegno e lo zio lo affidò ad un restauratore affinché ne imparasse il mestiere. In seguito divenne allievo del pittore Francesco Magiotto presso il quale rimase per tre anni. Frequentò il primo corso di nudo nel 1803 e nel 1806 venne ammesso ai corsi di pittura della Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti dove fu allievo di Teodoro Matteini.

Eduardo Argüelles is a Brazilian painter, cardiologist and university professor. Argüelles began painting at 48 years of age, and sustains up to today, his status of self-taught artist. To achieve higher levels of quality with his drawings, Argüelles adept the classic style, briefly transitioned to symbolist painting, leading to his current phase. Amazed with exquisiteness and perfection, especially of woman, Argüelles has the aptitude to create and/or recreate figures of extraordinary buoyancy and lucidity superimposing images that are, sometimes, indistinct. The result of that is what we can refer to "oneiric figurative". In his path, the painter participated in more than seventy of individual and cooperative exhibitions. Eduardo Argüelles is a member of “Ordem do Mérito das Belas Artes” -Merit Order of Fine Arts- and, holds an academic title at the “Academia Brasileira de Belas Artes“.

American painter William Cotton is an New York based painter, known for his surreal candy landscapes. His primary subjects are candy and naked women, often in combination. Will Cotton painted landscapes made out of pastries, melting ice cream, candy, and other tantalizing sweets on female models. He has a professional oven in his studio and makes all of these himself. Then uses them as models for the paintings.
Cotton was born in Melrose, MA, and earned his BFA from the New York Academy of Art. After graduating in the late 1980s, Cotton portrayed pop icons, such as the Nestlé Quick Bunny in his paintings.

Born in Santiago de Chile, in 1960, Carolina spent part of her childhood and teen years in Spain where she began her training in the art world as a student of Jose Luis Azparren, a professor at the San Fernando Academy of Madrid. On her return to Chile, she continued her studies with Reinaldo Villasenor and Edwardo Vilches.

Kim Roberti ~ Lovers


Vietnamese-born American painter Kim Roberti immigrated to the United States in 1966 at the age of 16. Since that time she has lived in many areas of the US and other countries around the world. All the while, Kim had a love for art and longed to paint. In 1999 she gave up another career and began the path to becoming an artist.
In the years since, Kim has enjoyed much success by winning numerous awards in local shows while developing a following of collectors. Kim has studied under many artists, most notably David Leffel and Sheri McGraw in Taos, New Mexico. Aside from her painting, Kim also teaches classes in her studio and gallery in Cottonwood, Texas.

Italian painter Giuseppe Muscio was born in Orta Nova, a small town situated in the historical and cultural region of Apulia. I was fascinated by the majestic landscape around me and realised that I was born to be an artist and painter. If I close my eyes, I still can smell the perfume of the rows of vines, the fragrance of the olives and the almonds. I immediately began to reproduce what I could see onto drawing sheets, which my grandfather would give me. Soon, I moved to Milan with my family, leaving behind my roots and my love for the region. I was passionate about painting; I studied the painting’s techniques of the greatest painters of 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. I also experimented with various painting techniques using scientific methods.

Francisco Sanchis Cortés, - Spanish painter, completed his high school degree Francisco enters to university who he left to dedicate himself to painting.
Francisco defines himself as an impressionist. He works in the advertising world with only 18 years old. His works are recollections of past pictures. His watercolours are in private collections in different parts of the world like: Spain, France, England, German, Holland and USA.
One of the most important work is the portrait of Archbishop of Valencia, Excmo y Revdmo Mr. D. Agustin Garcia Gasco y Vicente, with was presented at the Segrelles Gallery on November 27, 2001. His first exhibition was in Montpellier in 1995. Francisco makes one debut in Segrelles Gallery of Valencia on October, 1996. Later Francisco started in oil painting and he formed in the contemplation of feminity with Mediterranean colours.

Chen Yifei [陈逸飞] 1946-2005, famous Chinese classic painter, director and fashion designer, is a central figure in the development of Chinese oil painting and is one of China's most renowned contemporary artists. Although he was denounced for 'capitalist behavior' Chen's obvious talent and mastery of oil painting techniques won him recognition by the authorities. Chen soon became one of the leading painters of the cultural revolution, he was famous for his big Mao portraits and depiction of grand heroic events of the modern Chinese nation. After the Cultural Revolution Chen became the forerunner of a new age in Chinese aesthetics, promoting a new sense of modernity and lifestyle in his paintings as well as in fashion, cinema and design.

Giuseppe De Nittis | Impressionist painter | Scuola di Resina




Giuseppe De Nittis 1846-1884 - printmaker; painter/draughtsman.
Born in Barletta in Apulia, De Nittis received his first artistic training from Giambattista Calò, a local painter, before moving to Naples in 1861 to attend the Istituto di Belle Arti. He was expelled in 1863 for failing to conform to academic practice. At that time, De Nittis' main interest was in experimenting with plein air painting. In 1864, together with Matteo De Gregorio, Federico Rossano, and the Florentine sculptor, Adriano Cecioni, De Nittis founded the 'Scuola di Resina'. Cecioni became an important link between De Nittis and the Macchiaioli.

Il nome "Bocca della verità" compare nel 1485 per rimanere una delle curiosità romane, venendo frequentemente riprodotta in disegni e stampe. Risale al I secolo e la sua funzione di “smascheratore” di bugie è stata introdotta del Medioevo, si utilizzava per giudicare la colpevolezza o l’innocenza di un imputato, che dopo aver introdotto la mano, se riusciva ad estrarla era innocente, al contrario era giudicato colpevole. Tra le leggende che corrono, c’è quella più accreditata, la quale dice che, in caso di una sentenza negativa, il colpevole rischiava che la Bocca della Verità gli troncasse la mano, infatti dietro il mascherone era nascosta una terza persona che era d’accordo con il giudice.
La Bocca della Verità è un antico mascherone in marmo pavonazzetto, inizialmente situato all'esterno del portico della chiesa di Santa Maria in Cosmedin di Roma e successivamente murato nella parete del pronao con i restauri voluti da papa Urbano VIII Barberini nel 1631.
