Victor Hugo & Picasso ~ Non guardare il volto..

Pablo Picasso - Serenade, 1942
Pablo Picasso - Serenade, 1942

Look not at the face,
young girl, look at the heart.
The heart of a handsome young man is often deformed.
There are hearts in which love does not keep.

Young girl, the pine is not beautiful;
it is not beautiful like the poplar, but it keeps
its foliage in winter.

Emil Nolde ~ The Expressionist Flowers

Born to a peasant family, German painter Emil Nolde [1867-1956] carved wood for a living and came late to painting. Though briefly a member of Die Brücke 1906-07, he was essentially a solitary painter. Fervently religious and racked by a sense of sin, he created such works as Dance Around the Golden Calf 1910, in which the figures' erotic frenzy and demonic faces are rendered with deliberately crude draftsmanship and dissonant colors. On an ethnological expedition to the East Indies 1913-14, he was impressed by the power of the art he saw there. Back in Europe, he produced brooding landscapes and colorful flowers. As a printmaker he was noted especially for the stark black-and-white effect of his crudely incised woodcuts.

Tomasz Rut
Tomasz Rut
              Come la nebbia non lascia ferite
              Sul verde cupo della collina
              Così il mio corpo non lascia ferite
              Su di te e non lo farà mai.
              Nel buio oltre le finestre
              Vanno e vengono i bambini
              Come frecce senza bersaglio

              As the mist leaves no scar
              On the dark green hill
              So my body leaves no scar
              On you and never will
              Through windows in the dark
              The children come, the children go
              Like arrows with no targets
              Like shackles made of snow

              True love leaves no traces
              If you and I are one
              It’s lost in our embraces
              Like stars against the sun

Sydney Long ~ Art Nouveau and Symbolist painter

Sydney Long [1871-1955] is Australia's foremost Art Nouveau style painter and a major Symbolist. In works such as The Spirit of the plains 1897, Pan 1898 and Fantasy c 1914, as well as in his many versions of Flamingoes, he created magical images.
Long's Art Nouveau paintings are like reveries, an escape from the everyday; they create a feeling of spiritual elevation, of another reality. And yet, seeking imagery which conveyed the 'lonely and primitive feelings of this country', he captured something of the soul and tone of the Australian bush.

Zoltan Molnos ~ The Transylvanian Dalí

It is now more than 80 years since the Surrealism, in a smoky Parisian café, was officially born, After long decades of peak and slow agony, when the world was still celebrating its most famous master, Salvador Dali, far from the French and Spanish lands, in a small Transylvanian town, inhabited by hard-working people of Hungarian minority, the surrealism had its second birth on the canvas of a that time unknown young Romanian painter, Zoltán Molnos. It might seem curious that the surrealism, the most spectacular limb of the avant-garde movement, which had its philosophy in protesting against the inhumanity of the “civilised” world, had its renaissance in a city from Romania.

Michail Lermontov / René Magritte | I Go Out On The Road Alone / Sulla strada esco solo.

René Magritte
Sulla strada esco solo.
Nella nebbia è chiaro il cammino sassoso.
Calma è la notte.
Il deserto volge l'orecchio a Dio
E le stelle parlano tra loro.
Meraviglioso e solenne il cielo!
Dorme la terra in un azzurro nembo.
Cosa dunque mi turba e mi fa male?
Che cosa aspetto, che cosa rimpiango?
Nulla più aspetto dalla vita
E nulla rimpiango del passato,
cerco solo libertà e pace!
Vorrei abbandonarmi, addormentarmi!
I Go Out On The Road Alone

Alone I set out on the road;
The flinty path is sparkling in the mist;
The night is still. The desert harks to God,
And star with star converses.
The vault is overwhelmed with solemn wonder
The earth in cobalt aura sleeps. . .
Why do I feel so pained and troubled?
What do I harbor: hope, regrets?
I see no hope in years to come,
Have no regrets for things gone by.
All that I seek is peace and freedom!
To lose myself and sleep!

Leonard Cohen & Michael Parkes ~ Questo è per te...

Michael Parkes

Dorina Costras
Dorina Costras

Quando ti chiedi cos'è l'amore,
immagina due mani ardenti
che si incontrano,
due sguardi perduti l'uno nell'altro,
due cuori che tremano
di fronte all'immensità di un sentimento,
e poche parole
per rendere eterno un istante.
When you ask what love is,
imagine two burning handsencountered,
two eyes lost in each other,
two hearts that tremblefaced
with the enormity of a feeling,
and a few wordsto
make a moment forever.

Christof Monnin, 1968

French painter Christof Monnin was born in Lyon, France. The self-taught artist exposed his works for the first time in the age of17 years and immediately won recognition and the main prize.
Being an adherent of a bright palette, he masterfully mixes colors, excellently combining almost incompatible red with the golden yellow.
Even more often working with a palette knife, making lines stiffer, he reaches a certain aggression in the transfer of forms which makes his works even more realistic. Peering into his works, it is possible to see, how a warm southern wind hardly sways flowers on a tree branches.

Rosa purpurea

Ti avevo cantato una canzone.
Tu tacevi. La tua destra tendeva
con dita stanche una grande,
rossa, matura rosa purpurea.
E sopra di noi con estraneo fulgore
si alzò la mite notte d'estate,
aperta nel suo meraviglioso splendore,
la prima notte che noi godemmo.
Salì e piegò il braccio oscuro
intorno a noi ed era così calma e calda.
E dal tuo grembo silenziosa scrollasti
i petali di una rosa purpurea.

Sue was only 18, and still a student, when she first exhibited at the Royal Academy. Shortly after, she married Martin Bates and spent the next decade juggling the demands of her career with that of her young family, painting both interiors and portraits.

Lermontov, Rubinstein e Vrubel

come fosse incantato tacerà,
e non appena il vento sulle rocce
farà fremere l'erba appassita
e l'uccellino nell'erba nascosto
bevendo la celeste sua rugiada;

Завороженный, замолчит;
Порхнет во мраке веселей;
Цветок распустится ночной;
К тебе я стану прилетать;

As soon as night has spread her veil
To cover the Caucasian heights;
As soon as nature neath the spell
Of magic words falls silent quite;
As soon as on the cliffs the wind
Runs rustling through the fading grass,
And the small bird that hides behind
The brittle blades flies up at last;
And, drinking in the evening dew
Beneath the vine-leaves in the gloom,
Night flowering blossoms come to bloom;
As soon as the great, golden moon
Above the mountain quietly peeps
To steal a stealthy glance at you;
I shall come flying to watch your sleep
And on your silken lashes lay
Enchanted dreams of golden day....

I miei genitori erano sempre dietro a
chiederlo,
naturalmente non mi importava un fico di
che cosa diranno i vicini.
mi facevano pena i vicini,
codardi che spiavano da dietro le
tendine.
l'intero quartiere si spiava
addosso
e negli anni trenta non c'era molto
da vedere,
eccetto me che tornavo a casa ubriaco
a tarda notte.

"finirai per uccidere tua madre",
diceva mio padre,
"e inoltre che cosa diranno
i vicini?"

German painter Peter Wever received his training at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, Ireland, followed by travels in the United States and Guatemala. Wever is known for his color etchings often dealing with relationships. His work has warmth, and often a touch of humour. Wever's dynamic art is an interesting mix of printmaking and paint. The starting point for each work is a drypoint etching, which layouts the basic image. He then paints over the entire surface, so that each print in the edition is unique, with the colors, and even the gender of the people in the print changing from one example to the other. His work has been exhibited throughout Europe, the United States and Egypt.
