Jesse Mockrin, 1981

Jesse Mockrin (born Silver Spring, MD) received her M.F.A. from the University of California, San Diego in 2011, and her B.A. from Barnard College, New York in 2003.
She has had solo exhibitions at Night Gallery (Los Angeles), Nathalie Karg Gallery (New York), and Galerie Perrotin (Seoul).
Her work is in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Dallas Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD), the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and the Rubell Family Collection, among others.



Mockrin's work has been covered extensively, appearing in publications including The New York Times, The Brooklyn Rail, Vogue, Artforum, T Magazine, Art in America, and Modern Painters among others.
Jesse Mockrin's portraits transform Old Masters subjects into unsettling, contemporary compositions.

Awards

Some of her awards are as follows:
In 2002, she received the Joyce Krosh Kaiser Fine Arts Grant;
in 2008, the Russell Foundation Grant;
in 2009, the Alumnae Association of Barnard College Fellowship for Graduate Study.
