Gwenneth Barth-White | Pastel painter

American-born Swiss international artist Gwenneth Barth-White is a Maître Pastelliste of the 150-year-old Société des Pastellistes de France and has served as its Vice President for many years.

She's a Master Pastelist of the Pastel Society of America, and a Signature Member of the Portrait Society of America, where she has served as faculty.

Her work has been exhibited in Geneva, Gstaad, New York, Toronto, Paris, and in many French and American venues.

Gwenneth has lived and worked most of her life in Geneva, Switzerland, having moved there when she was a child.

After advanced music studies, she attended the Ecole des Beaux Arts and graduated from the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs.

Currently the artist lives in South-West Florida.

With easy access to Europe's museums, Gwenneth’s early fascination for painting led her to study the ancient techniques and methods of the old masters in depth, and with the encouragement of the American master, Joseph Bowler, she became well known as a portraitist.

The beauty and intimacy of the human figure has been the main focus of her work for many years, with still-lifes and landscapes an extra joy.

Gwenneth's awards include the International Association of Pastel Society's top 'Prix de Pastel', and first place for portrait and figure in the Pastel Journal’s best 100 paintings competition.

L'artista svizzera di origine americana Gwenneth Barth-White è Maître Pastelliste della Société des Pastellistes de France, fondata 150 anni fa, e ne è stata Vicepresidente per molti anni.

È Maestra Pastellista della Pastel Society of America e Membro Speciale della Portrait Society of America, dove ha ricoperto il ruolo di docente.

Le sue opere sono state esposte a Ginevra, Gstaad, New York, Toronto, Parigi ed in numerose sedi francesi ed americane.

Gwenneth ha vissuto e lavorato per gran parte della sua vita a Ginevra, in Svizzera, dove si è trasferita da bambina.

Dopo aver completato gli studi musicali, ha frequentato l'École des Beaux Arts e si è diplomata all'École des Arts Décoratifs.

Attualmente l'artista vive nel sud-ovest della Florida.

Grazie alla facilità di accesso ai musei europei, la precoce passione di Gwenneth per la pittura la portò a studiare approfonditamente le tecniche ed i metodi antichi dei grandi maestri e, con l'incoraggiamento del maestro americano Joseph Bowler, divenne una ritrattista affermata.

La bellezza e l'intimità della figura umana sono state per molti anni il fulcro del suo lavoro, con nature morte e paesaggi che rappresentavano un'ulteriore gioia.
