Pelle Swedlund | Symbolist painter

Per (Pelle) Adolf Swedlund (1865-1947) was a Swedish painter and curator at Thiel Gallery in Stockholm 1932-1946.

Pelle Svedlund was born, lived and died in Gävle.

He was a pupil at the Swedish Academy (1889-92) and completed his education in Paris and Brittany, where he met Paul Gauguin and together they experimented in making woodcuts.

Kolja Tatic, 1962 | Surrealist painter

Born in Jagodina, Serbia, Kolja Tatic was drawn to the arts at an early age.

When asked about childhood influences, Tatic replied, "My father was my first teacher, and when I was about 12, I saw for the first time paintings from Giorgio de Chirico and Dali".

He went on to say, "...when I first saw "Love Song" and "The Mystery and Melancholy of a Street" from de Chirico and "Premonition of Civil War" from Dali, I saw 'mysterious, enigmatic worlds...'"

Albert Ryder | Tonalist / Symbolist painter

Albert Pinkham Ryder, (born March 19, 1847, New Bedford, Mass., U.S. - died March 28, 1917, Elmhurst, N.Y.), American painter, noted for his highly personal seascapes and mystical allegorical scenes.

About 1870 Ryder settled permanently in New York City, where he briefly studied painting. His formal training, however, did little to affect his early work, consisting largely of naive and idyllic landscapes. He made several short trips to Europe, but the paintings in art museums interested him little. He was an imaginative, solitary painter. His lifework of about 150 paintings was produced slowly; his works are, therefore, difficult to date with certainty.

Eugène Carrière | Symbolist painter

Eugène Anatole Carrière (1849-1906) was a French Symbolist painter of the Fin de siècle period. His paintings are best known for their brown monochrome palette. He was a close friend of the sculptor Rodin and his work influenced Picasso. Some see traces of Carrière's monochrome style in Picasso's Blue Period.

Santiago Rusiñol i Prats (25 February 1861 - 13 June 1931) was a Spanish painter, poet and playwright. He was one of the leaders of the Catalan Modernisme movement.

He influenced Pablo Picasso as a Modern artist, and also left a number of Modernist buildings in Sitges, a town in Catalonia.

Pietro Canonica

Pietro Canonica (Moncalieri, 1º marzo 1869 - Roma, 8 giugno 1959) è stato uno scultore e compositore italiano; fu nominato senatore a vita da Luigi Einaudi nel 1950 e nel 1958 presiedette l'Assemblea in qualità di presidente provvisorio.

Allievo dello scultore gannese Odoardo Tabacchi, a soli 17 anni vinse un premio per la sua statua intitolata Novizia, divenendo famoso subito per la sua capacità di realizzare sculture molto realistiche.

Altre sue opere principali sono: Lo scavatore, Le comunicande e la statua dedicata all'ultimo zar di tutte le Russie, andata distrutta durante la rivoluzione bolscevica del 1917-1918.

Charles Leickert | Romantic Landscape painter

Landscapes and cityscapes were a very popular art form in the Netherlands during the nineteenth century. After the end of the French occupation in 1815, a new sense of pride emerged in all things Dutch.

In the fine arts, many artists rejected the more classical French landscape, aiming instead for Dutch landscape with rivers and windmills and looked back to the ‘Golden Age’ of the seventeenth century for inspiration. Charles Leickert (1816-1907) worked during this period and became known for his landscape and cityscape paintings.

Robert Antoine Pinchon (1886-1943) was a French Post-Impressionist landscape painter of the Rouen School- l'École de Rouen.

He was consistent throughout his career in his dedication to painting landscapes en plein air.

Julio César Ernesto Fernandez Larraz was born in Havana, Cuba, on March 12 1944.

The son of a newspaper editor, he began drawing at a very early age.

In 1961 his whole family moved to Miami, Florida.

In 1962 they moved to Washington, DC and in 1964 to New York.

Eliseo Meifrén y Roig | Impressionist painter

Eliseu Meifrèn i Roig (24 December 1857/59, Barcelona - 5 February 1940, Barcelona) was a Spanish Impressionist painter.

He began his studies of painting in the school of fine arts of the Lonja from Barcelona under the direction of Antonio Caba.

At the conclusion of his studies in this Center in 1870, moved to Paris, where making contact with Santiago Rusiñol and Ramon Casas and participate with them in the concerns of modernism (in fact, to participate in the modernist party to the first organized in Sitges), subsequently, goes to Italy, where he will reside until 1881. On his return, he settled in Sitges.

Simeon Larson | Romantic painter

Simeon Marcus Larson (1825-1864) was a Swedish Romantic Landscape painter from Åtvidaberg, Östergötland.

He has been recognized as "one of Sweden's foremost 19th-century painters" and labeled as "the most outstanding of the Swedish Düsseldorf painters".

His paintings were known for being dramatic and primarily depicted rivers under violent skies as well as shipwrecks in storms.

George Inness | Tonalist painter

George Inness, (born May 1, 1825, Newburgh, N.Y., U.S. - died Aug. 3, 1894, Bridge of Allen, Stirling, Scot.), American painter🎨 known especially for the luminous, atmospheric quality of his late landscapes.

Inness was largely self-taught.

His early works such as The Lackawanna Valley (1855) reflect the influence of Asher B. Durand and Thomas Cole🎨, painters of the Hudson River school🎨.

From about 1855-1874 Inness ascended to the height of his powers with works such as the Delaware Water Gap (1861) and the Delaware Valley (1865).

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, John P. Lasater IV is an award-winning artist who now lives, paints and teaches in Siloam Springs, located in the beautiful hills of Northwest Arkansas.

Lasater once known for his impressionistic style and bravado brushwork, has recently evolved under the mentorship of Jerusalem Master, Israel Hershberg, as well as from his travels to Italy and in depth historical and experimental self-studies.

The extended trips made by the artist to London (1875-1881) coincided with one of the happiest and most productive of his short life.

It was in London that De Nittis befriended artists such as Tissot, Millais, Leighton, Watts and Alma Tadema.

While in London he stayed with one of his patrons, the banker Kaye Knowles.

It was not just the physical aspects of these cityscapes that proved to be difficult to fully master, but London's distinctive light and atmosphere was a principal challenge for the artist.

Stefano Maderno | Baroque sculptor

Stefano Maderno (1576-1636), a sculptor of the Roman School and of the era just preceding Bernini, his contemporary.

He is believed to be of Lombard origin from the neighbourhood of Como; probably he was related to Carlo Maderna, the architect and sculptor, who was also born near Como, at Bissone.

Stefano's works are found frequently in churches upon which Carlo was engaged.

Jason Sacran has a BFA in painting from Tennessee Tech University, and credits towards an MFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Jason and his family live in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where he was the curator for the Fort Smith Art Center for almost three years.

In 2010 Jason became a full-time artist/painter, and part-time instructor for the University of Arkansas Fort Smith.

Jason is also the Arkansas state ambassador for the Portrait Society of America.

Hjertén is considered a major figure in Swedish modernism.

Periodically she was highly productive and participated in 106 exhibitions.

Sigrid Hjerén's total production amounted to slightly more than 500 paintings, together with sketches, watercolors and drawings.
