Serge Marshennikov is a contemporary Russian painter acclaimed for his highly detailed and hyperrealistic figurative oil paintings.
Born in Ufa, Russia, he is best known for capturing female subjects in states of repose, sleep, or deep contemplation.
His masterful interplay of soft natural light, intricate drapery, and delicate skin tones blends classical academic realism with a modern, intimate atmosphere
Some of his artworks are on permanent display in the Museum of Modern Art (El Paso), in The Grace Museum (Abilene), as well as many important private collections in Russia, England, Denmark, France and Japan.
Serge Marshennikov’s paintings also have been sold on famous Christie’s (London) and Bonham’s (Knightsbridge) art auctions.
Marshennikov’s work is heavily influenced by classical romanticism and 20th-century realism masters like Andrew Wyeth and Lucian Freud.
He is highly celebrated for his ability to paint translucent gauze, fine textiles, loose hair, and the subtle, luminous undertones of skin with oil on linen.
His paintings often present a neoclassic aesthetic juxtaposed with modern nuances, highlighting a delicate, comfortable eroticsm and serene isolation.
He graduated from Ufa Art College in 1995 before honing his technical mastery at the prestigious Repin Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg.
He won the Chairman's Choice Award at the International ARC Salon Competition (2008) and was named among the Top 30 figurative artists by the Portrait Society of America.
