Saturno Butto, 1957 | Surrealist / Hyperrealistic painter

Born in Portogruaro, Venice, Italy, Saturno Buttò🎨 is an Italian artist🎨. Saturno Buttò began his career in 1993 by publishing her first monograph titled "Portrayed from Saturn".
Since then he has been displaying his work in Europe, U.S.A and has published many new monographs from 1999-2007.
Saturno Buttò's work stands out due to his personal interpretation on sacred European art, which remind us of the great masters of our pictorial tradition.
Figurative rituals, living paintings, Neo-Gothic altarpieces are extremely technical creations that Saturno Butto draws inspiration from, in order to portray fascinating mysteries surrounding a dark and gloomy religion. In his works, this influence is transcribed by the juxtaposition of the human body's sensuality and its deep spirituality.

Through his paintings in wood, Saturno Butto precisely explores the issue of the conflict between the Western view of religious iconography and the representation of the human body, which is both exposed as a cult object and a beauty. The human figure is always represented as sacred, by Saturno Butto. Yet he doesn't hesitate to show his physical decline therefore weakness.

'I am a painter and I create portraits. I always went for some amusement through painting. Still I uphold my flayr for portraits, for I enjoy so much creating and looking at them, then. I love to mix things…Sacred and profane for example. It is quite normal for me to put purely erotic situations together with examples of devotional observance, like praying figures, misycs or martyrs.
I always enjoyed exploring the potential of mind and body, with a special interest in the “at the most” situations: figures able to shock while saving their power of seduction, in a kind of mix which makes you share, even at home, the performance of deep-rooted taboos.I owe a lot to my school education, especially to my High school of Arts and, then, to the Fine Arts Academy in Venice.Saturno is my Christian name. In the ancient septenarius, i. e. the set of the visible planets including the sun, Saturn’s symbol is depicted by the cross of the elements dominating a moon crescent. In my works I almost always put his monogram aside the signature".

Da allora seguono numerose esposizioni personali in Italia, Europa e negli Stati Uniti - a New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco.
