Dean was raised in the Roaring Fork Valley of Western Colorado. The rural upbringing encouraged a wonder and innate love for his surroundings. This has been carried through to his career as an artist.

His training has ranged from Regis College to study with established artists and has centered on the classical styles of representation.

His own style has developed from the respect for careful observation. Although many of his street scenes tend toward the impressionistic🎨, it is always with the underlying foundation of careful drawing and rendering.

Though subject matter may vary from his home valley to European vistas to intimate interiors where people gather, music is played or wine is consumed, the work seeks a synergy that responds to the moment.

Chances of beauty can be found from snow on a tree limbs to people in rapt conversation. It is the attempt to capture those moments of interest that occupy his compositions.

Works can be found in public and private collections in the United States and from Japan to Europe.

He is frequently found painting plein aire🎨, from local streets to cafes in Florence, or traveling throughout the U.S. He and his wife, Sally, keep their home and studio in Silt, Colorado along with a few dogs that feel the studio really belongs to them.
