René Miessen (Bellor) | Symbolist painter

Bellor is the pseudonym of the Belgian symbolist painter René Miessen (1911-2000).

He was born in Arlon in Belgium on July 30, 1911. At the age of 15, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in his hometown, and after four years of studies at the Architecture Academy of Tournai, his father could no longer financially support his studies.

Established in Brussels and enters the active life in the field of advertising where he made an important career, but his true passion is painting.

At age 45, he moved to Paris where he developed his own symbolism style.

The practice of the difficult technique of glacis is one of the peculiarities of Bellor's work because it gives this extraordinary depth to his paintings.

After many trips to the south of France and Italy, he returns to Brussels where he makes important exhibitions hailed by critics.

Disappointed by certain practices, he retired from the art market in 1984 but continues to paint with passion until age 88. Critics often called Bellor the "painter of secrets".

Bellor dies in Brussels on February 13, 2000.

All'età di 15 anni si iscrisse all'Accademia di Belle Arti nella sua città natale, e dopo quattro anni di studi all'Accademia di architettura di Tournai, suo padre non potè più sostenere economicamente i studi del figlio. Si è stabilito a Bruxelles, è entrato nella vita attiva nel campo della pubblicità ed ha fatto una carriera importante, ma la sua vera passione era la pittura.

All'età di 45 anni, si trasferì a Parigi dove sviluppò il proprio stile simbolista.

La pratica della difficile tecnica del glacis è una delle peculiarità dell'opera di Bellor, perché conferisce a questa sua straordinaria profondità la sua pittura.

Dopo molti viaggi nel sud della Francia e in Italia, torna a Bruxelles dove realizza importanti mostre acclamate dalla critica.

Deluso da certe pratiche, si ritirò dal mercato dell'arte nel 1984, ma continua a dipingere con passione fino all'età di 88 anni.

I critici hanno spesso definito Bellor il "pittore dei segreti".

Bellor muore a Bruxelles il 13 febbraio 2000.
