George Lundeen, 1948 | Departure / La partenza, 1986

"Departure", installed in the park near the library in Loveland, CO, is a life size bronze sculpture by the American artist, George Lundeen.
According to the artist, "The original piece came from a sketch I did in the Rome train station.
There were a couple of kids across from me on the marble floor.
It became the first life-size piece I ever did".

The work was completed over two years, beginning in 1984.

George Lundeen is a native of Nebraska, and was a Fulbright-Hayes Scholar studying in Florence, Italy.
George Lundeen often translates scenes from everyday life into his sculpture.
Here sits a young couple, waiting for a train, left with nothing, but a suitcase and the comfort of each other’s presence.

Lundeen based this sculpture on a sketch he drew of a couple waiting in an Italian train station.
The inclination towards travel is a universal instinct, and this sculpture nonetheless communicates the physical and emotional drive to move, grow, and inevitably change.

Lundeen started his studio in Loveland, CO in the 1970s, where he still lives and works.
The artist produces commercial and decorative sculpture.

"Departure", che fa parte della collezione dell'arte pubblica di Loveland, Colorado, è una scultura dello scultore Americano George Lundeen.

Come afferma lo stesso autore: "L'opera originale deriva da uno schizzo che ho fatto nella stazione ferroviaria di Roma.
C'era una coppia di ragazzi di fronte a me sul pavimento di marmo.
È diventato il primo pezzo a grandezza naturale che abbia mai realizzato".
