Mary Carroll, 1979 | Narrative / figurative painter

Born in in rural West Virginia, Mary Chiaramonte Carroll spent her youth helping her family work their farm and land in an isolated area.
She had no television or other modern distractions, and was encouraged to entertain herself with objects in nature.
Left with the workings of her imagination and observations of the world around her, she translated her understanding into paintings.
She continues this practice today, gaining much of her creativity from the natural world.


Her figurative realism paintings and drawings offer a narrative that echoes a provocative daydream, communicating both the human disposition and our relationship to the land.
Carroll received her Master of Fine Arts degree in both painting and art history from Radford University, graduating in 2010 Summa Cum Laude, and was awarded the University’s best graduate thesis.

Her work has been exhibited at Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art in Wisconsin, Modern Eden Gallery in San Francisco, Kirk Gallery in Denmark, Taubman Museum of Art in Virginia and RJD Gallery in New York.
Carroll is currently represented by Abend Gallery, Denver, and Lovetts Gallery in Tulsa.


She has been awarded by the Portrait Society of America (2022, 2019, 2018) and the International ARC Salon (2022,2019, 2018), and has won The Bold Brush Award (2023) as well as The Artist's Magazine Competitions (2023, 2022) and International Artist's Magazine (2023, 2022).

Nata nella campagna del West Virginia, Mary Chiaramonte Carroll trascorse la sua giovinezza aiutando la sua famiglia a lavorare nella loro fattoria e terra in una zona isolata.
Non aveva la televisione o altre distrazioni moderne ed era incoraggiata a intrattenersi con gli oggetti della natura.
Lasciata con il funzionamento della sua immaginazione e le osservazioni del mondo che la circondava, ha tradotto la sua comprensione in dipinti.
Continua questa pratica oggi, traendo gran parte della sua creatività dal mondo naturale.
I suoi dipinti e disegni di realismo figurativo offrono una narrazione che riecheggia un sogno ad occhi aperti provocatorio, comunicando sia la disposizione umana che il nostro rapporto con la terra.


Carroll ha conseguito il Master of Fine Arts in pittura e storia dell'arte presso la Radford University, laureandosi nel 2010 Summa Cum Laude, e ha ricevuto il premio la migliore tesi di laurea dell'Università.
