Hennie Niemann jnr, 1972

Hennie Niemann jnr’s art career began under the mentorship of his father, artist Hennie Niemann Snr.

The encouragement from Gregoire Boonzaaier and art dealer, Johans Borman, help built the confidence of a young artist early in life.

The inspiration for his unique style stemmed from two years of conscription after school, where he was placed in the Kruger National Park.

Surrounded by bush and wildlife, his love for the great African outdoors was born.

He began to do sketches while stationed at Kruger, and later, his affinity for the rhythm and harmony of Africa would become a key trademark.

This affinity led to many adventures across Africa, travelling to the legendary Busanga and lesser-known Liuwa plains, in the north-western part of Zambia, making his way through Mozambique, the mighty Zambezi River, Gorongosa National Park, Lake Malawi, and later Botswana.

Colour plays centre stage in Hennie’s art.

Experimenting with Fauvism, brought vibrancy and new emotional context to movement, energy and rhythm.

It rendered music and heartbeat to the canvas, making works come to life.

Cubism, and particularly Picasso greatly impacted the artist’s development.

His style has progressively gravitated towards greater abstraction, not in its purest form, but rendered in a fragmented style of richly coloured, angular, hard-edged forms, restructured to capture the energy and mood of complex compositions.

L'incoraggiamento di Gregoire Boonzaaier e del mercante d'arte Johans Borman aiuta a costruire la fiducia di un giovane artista nei primi anni di vita.

L'ispirazione per il suo stile unico deriva da due anni di leva dopo la scuola, dove fu collocato nel Parco Nazionale Kruger.

Circondato da cespugli e fauna selvatica, è nato il suo amore per i grandi spazi aperti africani.

Iniziò a realizzare schizzi mentre era di stanza al Kruger e, in seguito, la sua affinità per il ritmo e l'armonia dell'Africa sarebbe diventata un marchio chiave.

Questa affinità lo ha portato a molte avventure in tutta l'Africa, viaggiando nella leggendaria Busanga e nelle meno conosciute pianure di Liuwa, nella parte nord-occidentale dello Zambia, facendosi strada attraverso il Mozambico, il possente fiume Zambesi, il Parco Nazionale di Gorongosa, il Lago Malawi e, più tardi, Botswana.

Sperimentare con il Fauvismo ha portato vitalità e un nuovo contesto emotivo al movimento, all'energia ed al ritmo.

Ha trasmesso musica e battito cardiaco alla tela, facendo prendere vita alle opere.

Il Cubismo, ed in particolare Picasso, hanno avuto un grande impatto sullo sviluppo dell’artista.

Il suo stile ha progressivamente gravitato verso una maggiore astrazione, non nella sua forma più pura, ma resa in uno stile frammentato di forme riccamente colorate, spigolose e dai bordi netti, ristrutturate per catturare l'energia e l'atmosfera di composizioni complesse.
