Adolphe Alexandre Lesrel (1839-1929) was a French painter.

Throughout his career, Lesrel collected awards, medals and official recognitions.

In 1889, at the Salon of the Society of French Artists and at the Universal Exhibition, Lesrel received an honorable mention.

Adolphe Alexandre Lesrel was born in Genêts and had his artistic training under Jean-Léon Gérôme, whose style he followed.

His paintings are in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes and the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen.

He specialized in historical genre paintings.

The Dictionary of Artists of the French School lists all the exhibitions in which Lesrel participated between 1865 and 1881.

Lesrel continued to exhibit at the Salon in the following years, but the dictionary is too old to mention him.

At a 2012 Sotheby's auction, one of his paintings, The Practice Recital, was sold for US$86,500.

All'età di 22 anni entrò nell'École des beaux-arts di Parigi, dove si formò nell'atelier di Jean-Léon Gérôme, di cui seguì lo stile.

Ebbe come maestro anche Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier.

Restò fedele all'accademismo per tutta la sua vita di pittore.

Le sue opere rivelano uno stile meticoloso, con ogni dettaglio reso con la massima esattezza.

I colori sono ricchi e vibranti, le vesti e gli oggetti lussuosi compaiono in quasi tutte le sue opere.

È da menzionare la straordinaria virtuosità nel rendere in modo realistico i materiali ed i tessuti, come l'argento, il vetro, la seta, il velluto, il cuoio e la lana.

Nel corso della sua carriera, Lesrel collezionò premi, medaglie e riconoscimenti ufficiali.

Nel 1889, al Salon della Società degli Artisti Francesi ed all'Esposizione Universale, Lesrel ricevette una menzione d'onore.

Nel 1881, Jules Ferry fondò la "Società degli Artisti Francesi": un comitato di novanta membri, eletti dagli artisti già ammessi.

Nel 1885, Lesrel ne divenne membro, ottenendo il diritto di esporvi.

Nel 1890, Pierre Puvis de Chavannes fondò la Société Nationale des Beaux Arts con altri artisti tra cui Jules Louis Ernest Meissonier, Carolus-Duran ed Adolphe Alexandre Lesrel.

Questa mostra ha avuto luogo presso il salone Champ du Mars.

La maggior parte delle sue opere sono conservate in collezioni private e musei inglesi e statunitensi.

Musée des beaux-arts di Nantes: Le buveur, 1894;

Musée des beaux-arts di Rouen: Gentilshommes dans un tripot, 1876.

In un'asta di Sotheby's del 2002 un suo quadro venne venduto per 86500 USD.
