Alexandra Manukyan was born and raised in Armenia.

She graduated from Fine Art College, and subsequently State Pedagogical University, where she majored in Teaching Fine Arts.

Upon Immigrating to Los Angeles in 1990, Alexandra's focus turned towards fashion.

She graduated from fashion school and worked in the industry as a designer for two decades.

Teodor Axentowicz | Academic painter

Teodor Axentowicz (1859-1938) was a Polish-Armenian painter and university professor.

A renowned artist of his times, he was also the rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. As an artist, Axentowicz was famous for his portraits and subtle scenes of Hutsul life, set in the Carpathians.

In Paris, he received the prestigious title of Officier d'Académie Ordre des Palmes Académiques and Member of Académie des Beaux-Arts.

In 1904 at the St. Louis World's Fair, Axentowicz received a Special Commemorative Award in recognition of distinguished service in connection with various national sections of the Department of Art.

Hovsep Pushman | Orientalist painter

Hovsep Pushman [Armenian: Յովսէփ Փուշման] (1877-1966) was an American artist of Armenian background. He was known for his contemplative still lifes and sensitive portraits of women, often in exotic dress.

He was most closely associated during his lifetime with the Grand Central Art Galleries, which represented him from its opening in 1922 until his death in 1966.

Life

Hovsep Pushman was born and grew up in the town of Dikranagerd in the Ottoman Empire, where his family, originally "Pushmanian", was in the carpet business. Pushman showed artistic ability early, and at age 11 was the youngest student ever admitted to Istanbul's Imperial School of Fine Arts.

In 1896, Pushman's family emigrated to Chicago, where he studied Chinese culture, immersing himself in Asian art, and began to teach at the age of 17. He then moved to Paris and studied at the Académie Julian under Jules Joseph Lefebvre, Tony Robert-Fleury and Adolphe Déchenaud.

Charles Garabed Atamian was considered as the artist of life and light, master of landscape, and marine scenes. He was an acute observer of human moods and gesture. The majority of his works are oil paintings and he often depicted beach scenes, especially children playing in the sand.

Charles Garabed Atamian (September 18, 1872 - July 30, 1947) was born to an Armenian family. As a young artist Charles Atamian joined the French Lycée Saint- Benoît in Istanbul in 1880. He then carried on high-school studies in Venice, where he qualified in the teaching of drawing, painting and calligraphy.

Arshile Gorky | Abstract Expressionist painter

Arshile Gorky original name Vosdanik Adoian (born April 15, 1904, Khorkom, Van, Turkish Armenia [now in Turkey]-died July 21, 1948, Sherman, Connecticut, U.S.), American painter, important as the direct link between the European Surrealist painters and the painters of the American Abstract Expressionist movement.

Gorky’s early life was disrupted when his father abandoned Turkey, his wife, and his family in order to avoid service in the Turkish army. The rest of the family soon fled to Armenia to escape Turkish persecution and were subsequently dispersed.
