Nikolai Blokhin, 1968 | Pittore impressionista

Nato a San Pietroburgo, in Russia, il maestro Николай Блохин è emerso come uno degli artisti più importanti del suo tempo.

Formatosi prima presso la scuola d'arte distrettuale prima di entrare al Repin Institute, Blokhin ha raggiunto una solida base accademica nell'arte che può essere rintracciata, ammirata e interpretata oggi in alcuni dei famosi maestri russi dell'inizio del XX secolo.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir | La Promenade / La passeggiata, 1870

La Promenade is an oil on canvas, early Impressionist painting by the French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir, created in 1870.

The work depicts a young couple on an excursion outside of the city, walking on a path through a woodland.

Influenced by the rococo revival style during the Second Empire, Renoir's La Promenade reflects the older style and themes of eighteenth-century artists like Jean-Honoré Fragonard and Jean-Antoine Watteau.

The work also shows the influence of Claude Monet* on Renoir's new approach to painting.

Alex Colville | Magic Realist painter

David Alexander Colville, painter (born 24 Aug 1920 in Toronto, Ontario died 16 July 2013 in Wolfville, Nova Scotia). Alex Colville moved with his family to Amherst, NS, in 1929 and studied at Mount Allison (1938-42).

On graduating he joined the army and in 1944 was sent to Europe as a war artist. He returned to Canada late in 1945 and worked in Ottawa on paintings based on his European sketches and watercolours until his demobilization in 1946.

Early life

Henry Woods was born to a middle-class family at Warrington.

His father, William, was a pawnbroker and for some time a town councillor; his mother, Fanny, a shopkeeper. He was the eldest of nine siblings.

He moved to Naples at 10 years of age, to study literature, but his inclination was painting. He only briefly enrolled at the Neapolitan Academy, instead, real life was his model. His first work was a small and simple genre piece: A Girl who Laughs, exhibited at the Promotrice. Domenico Morelli* took note and encouraged him.

Alois Arnegger is an Austrian painter, well known for his Austrian and Italian scene paintings.

Arnegger's landscape paintings for sale depicting resplendent views of his homeland of Austria, he painted dynamic landscapes of the Gulf of Naples.

Alois Arnegger was born in Vienna in 1879.

In Vienna, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of the artists Robert Russ and August Eisenmenger, who introduced him to the pre-impressionist technique.

In 1920, Arnegger traveled to Italy and was enchanted by the picturesque coastal views of the Mediterranean, which became a source of inspiration for many of his creations.
