Vicente López Portaña (September 19, 1772 - July 22, 1850) was a Spanish painter**, considered one of the best portrait painters of his time.

Vicente López Portaña was born in Valencia on September 19, 1772. His parents were Cristóbal López Sanchordi and Manuela Portaña Meer. Vicente López began formally studying painting in Valencia at the age of thirteen, he was a disciple of father Antonio de Villanueva, a Franciscan monk, and he studied at the Academy of San Carlos in his native city.

He is also responsible for establishing the Chase School, which later would become Parsons The New School for Design.

It is the most important room at the first floor of the Uffizi palace, which ground floor was - at that time - occupied by the Florentine magistrates.

The Tribuna was the first nucleus of the Uffizi Gallery: it is a space conceived and realized to display to the public artworks considered the most precious of the Medici collection.
