Percy Bysshe Shelley | Ozymandias, 1818

"Ozymandias" is a famous sonnet written in 1818 by British Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822)🎨, in which he reflects on hubris and the implacable passage of time and on the decline of leaders and their empires.

The poem is widely believed to have been inspired by a broken statue of Ramses II that is now, like many priceless Egyptian artifacts, in the possession of the British Museum.

Eric Fischl is an internationally acclaimed American🎨 painter and sculptor. His artwork is represented in many distinguished museums throughout the world and has been featured in over one thousand publications. His extraordinary achievements throughout his career have made him one of the most influential figurative painters of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Fischl was born in New York City and grew up in the suburbs of Long Island. He began his art education in Phoenix, Arizona where his parents had moved in 1967. He attended Phoenix College and earned his B.F.A. from the California Institute for the Arts in 1972.

Burmese painter Myoe Kyaw was born in Yangon, Myanmar. He graduated from the State School of Fine Art Yangon and studied under U Thu Kha, U Mya Aye, and U Kyaw Lay. He has been exhibiting his work since 1987.

Myoe Kyaw's acrylic paintings are predominantly painted in cool tones. The strength of his brushwork in combination with his choice of colours produces a strong impression on his audience.

He has participated in over 70 group art exhibitions and has held 3 solo exhibitions in 2002, 2006 and 2012.

Arthur Hughes | Pre-Raphaelite painter

Arthur Hughes (1832-1915) was born in London. His best-known paintings are "April Love🎨" and "The Long Engagement", both of which depict troubled couples contemplating the transience of love and beauty.

He entered the School of Design, Somerset House, in 1846 and studied there under Alfred Stevens🎨. In 1847 he enrolled in the Antique Schools at the Royal Academy.

Barbara Jaskiewicz, 1957 | Scenery painter

Polish painter🎨 Barbara Jaskiewicz was born in Wroclaw, the city in which she still lives today. She graduated from the Wroclaw University of Technology with a BA in Architecture.

She paints in oils and watercolor and she also draws. Her subject matter is wide ranging, beginning with landscapes inspired by the noble sceneries found in the south of France, wild Alpine meadows or the picturesque valleys of the Tatra Mountains. Gardens and park promenades scattered within the trees of ancient forests, landscapes of Silesian lowlands and of Lubelszczyzna (situated in SE-Poland) appear to an equal degree.

He emigrated at a young age to Italy where he played an important role in the development of the style of decorative Baroque still lifes.

Early life

Abraham was born in Antwerp, the son of Jan Brueghel the Younger, the grandson of Jan Brueghel the Elder and the great-grandson of Pieter Brueghel the Elder.

Much of his artistic training came from his father Jan Brueghel the Younger, prolific painter and regular collaborator with Rubens.

Being an exponent of the Realist movement, the artist was also engaged in teaching activities for about thirty years, he acquired the status of the Professor of the Academy of Arts and was awarded honorary medals for his paintings on numerous occasions.

Carl Wilhelmson | Genre painter

Carl Wilhelm Wilhelmson (186-1928) was a Swedish painter, graphic artist, amateur photographer and art teacher.

His father, Anders Wilhelmson, was a "Bästeman" (a type of Naval Master), who died in a shipwreck in 1875. His mother, Amalia, opened a small shop to support the family.

Some relatives were in the printing business so, in 1881, he was apprenticed to the lithographers Meyer and Köster in Gothenburg.

He also took evening classes at the School of Design and Crafts. He later became a full time student of Carl Larsson🎨 at the Valand Academy.

Willem Haenraets, 1940 | Impressionist painter

With soft colors, the artist conjures up a romantic world of beautiful illusion on his canvasses. Hollandaise painter Willem Haenraets was born in Rotterdam and his talent was discovered at an early age.

Haenraets was just 16 when he started his training at the academy in Maastricht, which he followed with further education at the Antwerp art academy.

Granted a scholarship for talented students, he received his artistic polish as a master craftsman student of the renowned professors Sarina and Vaarten.

Haenraets’ creations are evidence that the great tradition of the Belgian-Dutch school has received a flourishing sequel. The old masters certainly would have given him a nod of approval.

Nadežda Petrović (1873-1915) | Impressionist painter

Nadežda Petrović / Надежда Петровић was a Serbian painter and one of the women war photography pioneers in the region.

Considered Serbia's most famous impressionist and fauvist, she was the most important Serbian female painter🎨 of the period.

Born in the town of Čačak, Petrović moved to Belgrade in her youth and attended the women's school of higher education there.

In 1893, she became an art teacher at the school and later taught at the women's university in Belgrade. Afterwards, she obtained a stipend from the Serbian Ministry of Education to study art in the private school of Slovenian artist Anton Ažbe in Munich.

When he was 16 years old, he started his education at the Academy of Arts in Maastricht.

Four years later he obtained a scholarship from the Belgian Government to study at the National Institute for Fine Arts in Antwerp, in the Master class of professor Sarina (Atelier Opsomer) and professor Vaarten.
