Albert Bierstadt | Hudson River School
German-born American painter Albert Bierstadt (1830-1902), recognized as the foremost painter of the american frontier during the nineteenth-century, was born in Solingen, Germany, in 1830.
At the age of two, he and his family emigrated to the United States, settling in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Edgar Degas | The Ballet dancers
Among the supreme masterpieces of the century are Degas's pictures of the ballet and its dancers.
The impulse towards painting the contemporary scene came to him not only from Gustave Courbet (1819-1877) and Manet (1832-1883) but from his friend, the critic Duranty, the exponent of the aesthetics of naturalism.
Yet in the particular direction of his tastes and his conception of design he was entirely individual.
To study and convey movement was a chosen task, first undertaken on the race course and then in his many pictures of the Opera, viewed from behind the scenes, in the wings, or from the orchestra stalls during a performance.

Albert Lynch ~ La Belle Époque
Albert Lynch [1851-1912] settled in Paris, where he studied at l'École des Beaux-Arts. Lynch worked under the guidance of painters Jules Achille Noël, Gabriel Ferrier and Henri Lehmann. He showed his artwork in the Salon of French artists which he won in 1890 and 1892 and in the World's Fair of 1900 during which he received a gold medal.

In addition to her main love of painting, she directs her creative energies into pottery figures, sculpture and reproduction stained glass panels.
She has even customised items of clothing.

Juan Gris | Cubist painter
Juan Gris, original name José Victoriano González (1887-1927), Spanish painter whose lucidly composed still lifes are major works of the style called Synthetic Cubism.
Gris studied engineering at the Madrid School of Arts and Manufactures from 1902-1904, but he soon began making drawings for newspapers in the sensuously curvilinear Art Nouveau style.
He moved to Paris in 1906 and settled at the Bateau-Lavoir, an artists’ dwelling where his compatriot Pablo Picasso lived. Gris was thus in touch with the evolution of Cubism, a style initiated by Picasso and Georges Braque around 1907.

Ancient Greek sculpture
The origins of greek sculpture have been ascribed the wooden cult statues that were described by Pausanias as xoana.
No such statue survives, and the descriptions of them are vague despite the fact that some were objects of veneration for hundreds of years.
The first piece of Greek statuary to be reassembled since is probably the Lefkandi Centaur (Eretria Mus.) found on Euboia.

While attending Yale, Cannon studied under the American Sculptor Alice Aycock. Nature is the inspiration and foundation for Cannon’s terraform sculptures. Terraform, literally translates to "Earth-shaping", the process of deliberate modification of the atmosphere, temperature, surface topography or ecology to be similar to those of Earth to make it habitable by humans.

After graduating from high school, he studied briefly at the Correspondence School of Illustrating in New York City (1899-1900), and then he enrolled in classes at the New York School of Art (1900-1906).
In his shift from illustration to the fine arts, he studied with William Merritt Chase, a leading American Impressionist painter, and with Robert Henri, who exhorted his students to paint the everyday conditions of their own world in a realistic manner.

Ben Goossens was born in Liezele, Belgium and attended the St Lucas Art School in Brussels where he studied Illustration and Photography.
After four years in Art School, illustration and photography became his obsession. He worked in advertising for 32 years, mostly as an Art Director, where he gained 15 years of Photoshop experience. His source of inspiration in advertising came from surrealist paintings and still does in his work now. His hobby and passion now is creating ‘experimental/surreal photomontages’, these images are very seamless yet painterly dreamscapes. With each shooting he tries to create his own personal image, either simple or complex the idea behind his images is more important than the technique. He believes that the work he makes now is a logical follow-up to what he did professionally.
