Edwin Lord Weeks [1849-1903] was born at Boston, Massachusetts. He was a pupil of Léon Bonnat and of Jean-Léon Gérôme, at Paris. He made many voyages to the East, and was distinguished as a painter of oriental scenes. Weeks' parents were affluent spice and tea merchants from Newton, a suburb of Boston and as such they were able to accept, probably encourage, and certainly finance their son's youthful interest in painting and travelling.

Fernand Toussaint | Still Life
Fernand Toussaint (1873-1956)🎨 rightfully takes his place among the most important Belgian Post-Impressionist painters of the 20 th century.
With his refined taste and sensitivities, Toussaint also excelled as a painter of flowers🎨 e had a particular predilection for roses, often in full bloom, but more modest and even fragile flowers such as pansies and sweet peas were depicted with the same delicate attention and emotion.

Haixia Liu, 1962 | Impressionist painter
Haixia Liu was born to a family of artists in Hubei Province, China.
Encouraged and instructed by his father and grandfather, he began to draw at very early age.
He did decorative painting for local businesses at age 12.
Between 1981-1983 Liu chose to learn graphic design at the Hubei Industry Institute.

Cave of Altamira
Modern painters have been influenced by the Altamira cave paintings.
After a visit, Pablo Picasso exclaimed: "After Altamira, all is decadence"!
The Cave of Altamira (Spanish: Cueva de Altamira; pronounced: [ˈku̯e.βa ðe al.ta.ˈmi.ɾa]) located near the historic town Santillana del Mar in Cantabria, Spain, is renowned for its numerous parietal cave paintings featuring charcoal drawings and polychrome paintings of contemporary local fauna and human hands, created between 18,500 and 14,000 years ago during the Upper Paleolithic by Paleo human settlers.
The earliest paintings in the cave were executed around 35,600 years ago.

Leo Putz | Impressionist / Expressionist painter
Leo Putz (1869-1940) was a Tyrolean painter. His work encompasses Art Nouveau, Impressionism and the beginnings of Expressionism. Figures and landscapes are his predominant subjects.
Leo Putz was born in Merano in South Tyrol, Italy, in 1869.
His artistic career began in 1885 under the aegis of his stepbrother.
This was Robert Poetzelberger (1856-1930) who was a professor at the Munich Academy and who taught him drawing.

Roman Romanov, 1966 ~ Landscape painter
Роман Романов nasce in Siberia, nella città di Kazan Kemerovo. Ha finito Art College in Tatarstan Repubblica. In seguito ha ottenuto un istruzione superiore tecnica. Gaetano Previati (1852-1920)
Gaetano Previati - celebre pittore del '900 Italiano, nasce a Ferrara.
I suoi studi artistici si svolgono a Ferrara, ma presto egli si trasferisce a Milano, dove frequenta l’Accademia di Brera.
E’ nel capoluogo lombardo che Previati inizia la sua attività artistica, spiccando subito per modernità ed innovazione.
Il pittore ferrarese è universalmente considerato come l’iniziatore delle istanze divisioniste in Italia.

Paul Cézanne | Post-Impressionist painter
Paul Cézanne [1839-1906] was a Post-Impressionist, whose work laid the foundations of the transition from the 19th century conception of artistic endeavour to a new and radically different world of art in the 20th century. Cézanne can be said to form the bridge between late 19th century Impressionism and the early 20th century's new line of artistic enquiry, Cubism.

Ottone Rosai | Futurist painter
Ottone Rosai (1895-1957) was an Italian painter* born in Florence.
Rosai graduated from the Florence Academy of Fine Arts in 1912, a period in which he was closely associated with the Lacerba group of Florentine Futurists and especially Ardengo Soffici, with whom he held a joint exhibition at the Galleria Sprovieri, Rome, in 1914.
Having returned to Florence after World War I, he adapted to the climate of the return to order and devoted himself to the study of early Italian painters*.

Valeriy Kot, 1958 ~ Surrealist painter
Валерий Кот holds a degree in architecture and used to work in architectural firms throughout Kiev, Ukraine. In 1985 changes his vocation and starts dealing with art, lead by ideas of surrealism he is so fascinated by, from his earlier years. In 1977 performs his first art works in surrealism genre. His first show took place on April 1979. Since 1986 artist exhibits and participates in various shows in Kiev on a permanent basis. Artist exhibits in EuroCenter Berlin, Germany in 1991 Belgium in 1995 and 1997. The concept of artist’s work is uncontrolled play of subconscious associations, philosophy and inscrutability of the images and themes, connection of natural with surreal, reality with fiction.

Paul Martin, 1948 ~ Symbolist painter
Paul Martin was born in 1948 and studied Painting and Printmaking at Birmingham College of Art and the Royal Academy Schools between 1967 and 1973. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Art, Paul Martin has exhibited regularly over the years, his last show at Bourne Fine Art was in 2001. Paul Martin’s paintings are large in scale and theme, figurative and multi layered. There is much symbolism and a multiplicity of references in the work of Paul Martin, born 1948. His are beautiful, lyrical paintings comprising many rich layers of paint -often pure pigment which is applied to the surface, sometimes board and sometimes copper or aluminium sheets. The technique that this artist employs gives his work an unusual depth and luminosity.

Audrey Kawasaki, 1982 | The women on wood
Kawasaki's works are oil paintings painted directly onto wood panels, and her style has been described as a fusion of Art Nouveau and Japanese manga.
Kawasaki studied fine art painting for two years at the Pratt Institute in New York City, but left after two years without completing her degree.
She cites the emphasis in the New York art scene on conceptual art, an approach at odds with her figurative, illustrative style, as among the reasons she left.

Daiva Staškevičienė, 1968 ~ Symbolist painter
Daiva Staškevičienė was born in Vilnius. In 1986 graduated from secondary school in Vilnius. 1993-1995 Daiva studied at Justinas Vienožinskas art school in Vilnius. In 1995 entered Vilnius Academy of Arts to study stenography, however after a year and a half once and for all she was attracted by graphic arts specialty. Daiva studied graphic arts leaded by professor Leonas Lagauskas.

My appreciation and love for art came from her.
