John Bradshaw Crandell | Pin-Up painter

John Bradshaw Crandell (1896-1966) was an American painter and illustrator, was known as the artist of the stars, a glamour painter.

Among those who posed for Crandell were Carol Lombard, Bette Davis, Judy Garland, Veronica Lake and Lana Turner.

In 1921 he began his career with an ad for Lorraine hair nets sold exclusively by F. W. Woolworth.

Edwin Lord Weeks ~ Academic painter

Edwin Lord Weeks [1849-1903] was born at Boston, Massachusetts. He was a pupil of Léon Bonnat and of Jean-Léon Gérôme, at Paris. He made many voyages to the East, and was distinguished as a painter of oriental scenes. Weeks' parents were affluent spice and tea merchants from Newton, a suburb of Boston and as such they were able to accept, probably encourage, and certainly finance their son's youthful interest in painting and travelling.

The Cave of Altamira (Spanish: Cueva de Altamira; pronounced: [ˈku̯e.βa ðe al.ta.ˈmi.ɾa]) located near the historic town Santillana del Mar in Cantabria, Spain, is renowned for its numerous parietal cave paintings featuring charcoal drawings and polychrome paintings of contemporary local fauna and human hands, created between 18,500 and 14,000 years ago during the Upper Paleolithic by Paleo human settlers.

The earliest paintings in the cave were executed around 35,600 years ago.

Ottone Rosai | Futurist painter

Ottone Rosai (1895-1957) was an Italian painter* born in Florence.
Rosai graduated from the Florence Academy of Fine Arts in 1912, a period in which he was closely associated with the Lacerba group of Florentine Futurists and especially Ardengo Soffici, with whom he held a joint exhibition at the Galleria Sprovieri, Rome, in 1914.
Having returned to Florence after World War I, he adapted to the climate of the return to order and devoted himself to the study of early Italian painters*.

Paul Martin, 1948 ~ Symbolist painter

Paul Martin was born in 1948 and studied Painting and Printmaking at Birmingham College of Art and the Royal Academy Schools between 1967 and 1973. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Art, Paul Martin has exhibited regularly over the years, his last show at Bourne Fine Art was in 2001. Paul Martin’s paintings are large in scale and theme, figurative and multi layered. There is much symbolism and a multiplicity of references in the work of Paul Martin, born 1948. Audrey Kawasaki, 1982 | The women on wood

Kawasaki's works are oil paintings painted directly onto wood panels, and her style has been described as a fusion of Art Nouveau and Japanese manga.

Kawasaki studied fine art painting for two years at the Pratt Institute in New York City, but left after two years without completing her degree.

Павел Ожгибесов was born in 1973. From 1982-1988, he studied at a private art studio. In 1988, he was accepted to Chelyabinsk Art College and graduated from the college in 1992. For his degree work, he created illustrations for the poetry of Daniel Harms. From 1993-1995, Paul studied at the Yaroslavl Theatral College with a focus in specialty theater production designing. His favorite art mediums are easel painting and drawing. Paul lives and works in Moscow.

Razumovsky’s digitally-enhanced photography introduces us to a collection of scantily clad women photographed pin-up style and “draped” in “milk clothes” such as corsets, dresses, underwear, and bathing suits. Growing up in Oslo, Norway, nature has always played a major part in Berit Kruger-Johnsen's life. She studied for a degree in biology and upon completion was accepted into the only graphic design school in Oslo at that time.

The only artist in my family was my grandfather, who never met. It was crazy during the Depression era and was institutionalized. I think it would be fair to say that whenever an artist or not entitled connotations in my family.

I grew up in the region of Oslo, Norway. We had easy access to the sea, forests and mountains and nature played an important role in my life. I love drawing and after graduating with biology as my major, I have accepted in the only school of graphic design at the time of Oslo. Thus, a good compromise had been made, drawing and design with a purpose and tangible results.
