Portrait of Maria Salviati is an oil on panel painting attributed to Pontormo, executed c. 1543-1544, in the Uffizi, Florence.
It was acquired by the Uffizi early in the 20th century as a work by Domenico Beccafumi.
Soon afterwards Lányi identified it as a portrait of Cosimo I's mother Maria Salviati by Pontormo mentioned in Lives of the Artists by Giorgio Vasari.

Vitaly Tikhov | Social realist painter

Тихов Виталий Гаврилович (1876-1939) was an Ukrainian painter, one of the best and most talented students in Vladimir Makovsky's studio.
In the early 1910s his magnificent, large-format "bath-house" paintings were especially successful and much admired, and for these he was twice awarded the graduation Gold Medal of the Academy of Fine Arts, having studied there on two separate occasions.

A painter from Spoleto who moved to Paris during the Belle Epoque, Cesare Augusto Detti (1847-1914) was an Italian artist, best known for his historical genre paintings in the nineteenth century.
Some of his works are included in the collections of the Uffizi and Galleria Borghese of Rome.
His father, Davide Detti, was an engineer and an amateur painter. As a result, his early interest in art was encouraged.
In 1861, he made the acquaintance of Francesco Coghetti, a painter from Rome who was creating murals at the Teatro Nuovo (now known as the Teatro Nuovo Gian Carlo Menotti).

José Puyet Padilla (1922-2004) was an Spanish modern impressionist painter, whose popularity spread throughout Spain and the United States.

Early life

Puyet was born in Malaga, Spain. He was grandson of teacher José Padilla, a spanish artist who began painting in the nineteenth century. As a child, Puyet learned to paint by watching his grandfather, whose company he preferred to that of children his own age.
By age eight, he had started working in pencils and oils. At age 20, Puyet entered the Spanish military, due to World War II, and was sent to the exclave of Melilla. The experience deepened his observations of new personages and atmospheres.

The Vienna Crowning with Thorns is a painting by the Italian master Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. Executed probably in 1607, it is now located in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.
According to Caravaggio's biographer Giovanni Bellori a Crowning with Thorns was made for Caravaggio's patron Vincenzo Giustiniani, and this painting can be traced convincingly to the Giustiniani collection.

Christine Comyn was born in Tielt, Belgium.
She studied at the St. Luke Academy in Ghent, Belgium, and later on at the Pedagogic Institute for Promotion, also in Ghent with the intention of becoming an educator.
As a result of the sold out status of her watercolors at the first solo exhibition, she began in 1989 to commit her time solely to producing the abstract watercolors that literally sold as quickly as she could paint them.

Ippolito Caffi (1809-1866) modernized the veduta vocabulary inherited from Canaletto, selecting new points of view, and he showed an interest in nocturnal scenes with artificial or lunar illumination, in recording the effects of light and atmosphere at particular times, and in chronicling unusual events such as eclipses and balloon flights.
His most famous work, the Last Hour of Carnevale in Rome (The Candles) (1837; Venice, Ca' Pesaro), displays the originality of his style.

Austrian painter with an academic style, Hans Zatzka (1859-1945) is also known under the pseudonyms of Zabateri, P.Ronsard, Bernard Zatzka and Joseph Bernard.
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1877 to 1882, where he took lessons with Christian Griepenkerl, Carl Wurzinger and Carl Von Blaas.
