Corine Ko, 1962 | Abstract Mixed Media painter

Corine Ko's artistic process fuses photography and painting. Reworking her photos with the eye of a painter, she integrates heterogeneous elements to generate original digital collages.
At the same time, photography is literally embedded in her canvases, lending the work a soul and substance that is adorned by the colors of the painting.
She also sometimes uses shreds of torn paper - either lace or printed paper - which add relief to the work and animate the surface with splashes of bright color, embellishing silhouettes that do not have a clear outline; instead, it is the color that defines the shapes and gives them life, liberating them to escape and spread, apparently dissolving the provisional form.

His works of the late nineteenth-century, like the Russell-Cotes painting, treat contemporary and 'frock-coat' Genre subjects with titles such as The Suitor, The Centre of Attention or Woman Eavesdropping on a Conversation.
They tend to be painted in a realistic style recalling the 'gallant' subjects of eighteenth-century painting that were so fashionable at the time.
The Minuet, like many of the artist’s works of this period, is proficiently executed with a detailed but free handling of the paint and it is characterised by a cloying, saccharine quality.

Wassily Kandinsky | Art Quotes / Aforismi sull'arte

Ogni opera d'arte è figlia del suo tempo e spesso è madre della nostra sensibilità.
Every work of art is the child of its age and, in many cases, the mother of our emotions.
Color is a power which directly influences the soul.
Color provokes a psychic vibration. Color hides a power still unknown but real, which acts on every part of the human body.
An empty canvas is a living wonder... far lovelier than certain pictures.
Mi sembrava che l'anima viva dei colori emettesse un richiamo musicale, quando l'inflessibile volontà del pennello strappava loro una parte di vita.

Io lascerei tutto,
tutto io getterei:
i prezzi, i cataloghi,
l'azzurro dell'oceano sulle carte,
i giorni e le loro notti,
i telegrammi vecchi
ed un amore.
Tu, che non sei il mio amore,
se mi chiamassi!

If you would call me, oh yes,
if you would only call me!
I would leave everything,
I would throw everything over;
prices, catalogs,
the blue of the ocean on maps,
The days and their nights,
old telegrams
and a love,
You, who are not my love,
if you would only call me!

Jeremy Lipking, 1975 | Figurative painter

In a remarkably short period of time, Jeremy Lipking🎨 has emerged as one of the country's premier Realist artists. His talent, which rivals that of the late nineteenth century painterly realists such as John Singer Sargent🎨, Joaquin Sorolla🎨 and Anders Zorn🎨, is outstanding for a painter of any age. It is all the more remarkable since he is only thirty years old.
Like these great painters of the past, Lipking is a virtuoso artist. His canvases convey the magical aura of convincing imagery emerging out of a field of paint. Realism has been misunderstood through most of the twentieth century as an art of imitation. In truth, when practiced by a painter like Jeremy Lipking🎨, realist painting is a powerful creative force. Many viewers are drawn to his art thinking that it looks just like a photograph.

Claude Monet | La Mare, effet de neige, 1874-75

Claude Monet painted La Mare, effet de neige in Argenteuil winter of 1874-1875.
The aethereal landscape employs tonal blue and white hues to create a frosted snowscape, bordered by homes with snow-dusted roofs.
A trio of silhouetted figures, dwarfed by trees, traverse the scene.
The work is brilliant, charming and subtle, standing as a superb example of Monet’s experimentation with the Impressionist style in the mid-1870s.
During this crucial period of his practice, his increasingly loose brushwork and thick application of paint began to formally convey the more ephemeral and atmospheric effects of the natural world.
