Zhang Jing Sheng 张京生, 1940 | Plein air /Palette knife painter



Zhang Jing Sheng 张京生 is a professor and tutor for graduate students at the Tianjin Fine Arts Academy. He received State Allowance.
In 1967, he graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Central Fine Arts Academy. He won the silver prize at 'The Chine Fine Arts Exhibition'.
Between 1989 and 1990 he went to America to visit scholars and hold an exhibition, at the request of the Tao Sen University.

Italian painter Lionello Balestrieri (Cetona, Siena, Italy September 12, 1872 - October 25, 1958) was a President of the Society of Italian Artists working in Paris, elected in 1906.

Balestrieri was best known for his works depicting the life of bohemians and musicians and for many years directed the Museum of Industrial Art in Naples.

Lionello Balestrieri | Genre / Impressionist painter

Lionello Balestrieri was born in Cetona in 1872 into a family of humble origins. When his family moved to Rome he enrolled at the Istituto di Belle Arti and then at the same institution at Naples where he was taught by Domenico Morelli and, privately, by Gioacchino Toma.
In 1897 he moved to Paris where he earned his living as an illustrator.
As a result of his friendship with the musician Giuseppe Vannicola he became so drawn to the musical circle that the subject matter of his art was mainly either musicians or music.

Luca Postiglione was born in a family of painters. He was the son of the painter Luigi Postiglione.
His uncle, Salvatore Postiglione (1861-1906) was also a painter and his teacher.

His brother, also named Luigi Postiglione and his nephew, and Luigi's son, Lucawere also painters. He studied at the Neapolitan Institute of Fine Arts under his uncle, Raffaele and Domenico Morelli.

Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema | The Roses of Heliogabalus, 1888


"The Roses of Heliogabalus" is an 1888 painting by the Dutch-born British artist Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836-1912). It is currently owned by the Spanish-Mexican billionaire businessman and art collector Juan Antonio Pérez Simón.

The painting measures 132.7 × 214.4 centimetres (52.2 × 84.4 in). It shows a group of Roman diners at a banquet, being swamped by drifts of pink rose petals falling from a false ceiling above. The Roman emperor Elagabalus reclines on a platform behind them, wearing a golden robe and a tiara, watching the spectacle with other garlanded guests.

Shawn Mackey was born in Edmonton, Canada. Growing up in the long cold winters of Canada, he had ample time to draw and let his creativity flourish. Mackey’s parents, who were both teachers, would bring home boxes of scrap photocopy paper for him to draw on. He would cover hundreds of sheets with pictures of everything from Italian sports cars, to the elaborate floor plans of luxury mansions, to a variety of superheroes and cartoon characters pulled from his own imagination.

Bosnian painter and engraver Safet Zec was born in Rogatica, Bosnia-Herzegovina.
After completing Art High School in Sarajevo, he continued his studies in Belgrade where he graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1969.
"I am a figurative artist, but I am also a contemporary one", said Safet Zec.
"The way we look at the world has changed and I try to reflect this in my paintings".

Ippolito Caffi | Carnival night in via del Corso in Rome, 1845-1847


The origins of carnival date back to the Roman Saturnalia, festivities and Religious ancient Rome characterized by public amusements, orgiastic rites, sacrifices, dances and the presence of masks.
The Roman Carnival has however its maximum explosion, in the Middle Ages, after the election of Pope Paul II, who, after the transfer of the papal residence at Palazzo Venezia, concentrated in the historic center and particularly in Via Lata (now the Via del Corso), most of the carnival festivities.
The main form of the Roman carnival was Rugantino, but there were also various Norcini, Aquilani and Meo Patacca and General Damn.
