Edoardo Tofano | Genre / Romantic painter

Edoardo Tofano (Naples, 1838 - Rome, 1920) was an Italian painter.
He painted historic, genre and Orientalist themes.
He began his studies at the Albertina Academy of Turin, but completed studies at the Accademia Clementina of Bologna.
He then returned to Naples where he became a follower of the Realism of Domenico Morelli.
At the age of 23 (1861), he was recruited as an instructor at the Art Institute of Naples, a post he held till 1864.

Leonid Afremov | The "Impressionist" Lovers


Leonid Afremov (1955-2019) was a Russian-Israeli modern impressionistic artist who worked with palette knives and oils.
Over the last 25 years, he developed his own personal style and technique which differentiates him from other artists. He painted mainly city scenes, vintage cars, seascapes, cats playing jazz and flowers.
Afremov was born in Vitebsk, the same town where Marc Chagall began his artistic career. He developed his passion for painting in the USSR until 1990.

Sir John Everett Millais, 1st Baronet PRA (1829-1896) was an English painter and illustrator who was one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
He was a child prodigy who, aged eleven, became the youngest student to enter the Royal Academy Schools.
The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was founded at his family home in London, at 83 Gower Street (now number 7).

William McGregor Paxton (1869-1941)

William McGregor Paxton was an American painter and instructor who embraced the Boston School paradigm and was a co-founder of The Guild of Boston Artists.
He taught briefly while a student at Cowles Art School, where he met his wife Elizabeth Okie Paxton, and at the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston.
Paxton is known for his portraits, including those of two presidents - Grover Cleveland and Calvin Coolidge - and interior scenes with women, including his wife.
His works are in many museums in the United States.

San Francisco artist Jacob Dhein was interested in art as a child. Crayons and colored pencils were his tools of expression. He spent hours intricately crafting drawings of comic book heroes and animals. By the time he graduated from high school, one of his drawings was exhibited on the wall of a local bank. It wasn’t until he was a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh that he decided to take a drawing class.

Andrea del Verrocchio | Sculpture works


Andrea del Verrocchio (1435-1488) was 15th-century Florentine sculptor and painter and the teacher of Leonardo da Vinci. His equestrian statue of Bartolomeo Colleoni, erected in Venice in 1496, is particularly important.
The sculptural works either recorded to be by Verrocchio or actually extant are few in number.
According to his brother Tommaso, Verrocchio was responsible for an inlaid slab (1467) in the Florentine church of San Lorenzo recording the burial place of Cosimo de’ Medici, who died in 1464.

Édouard Alexandre Sain (13 May 1830 - 26 June 1910) was a French painter whose works included historical and genre subjects as well as portraits.
Sain was strongly interested in antiquity.
He first settled at Écouen, where he painted various rustic scenes in the plein air style, but experimented with other styles.
His paintings from this period include Vénus et l'Amour, a group of chimney sweeps and a historical painting of the period of Louis XV.

Andrea del Verrocchio (born 1435, Florence - died 1488, Venice), 15th-century Florentine sculptor and painter and the teacher of Leonardo da Vinci.
His equestrian statue of Bartolomeo Colleoni, erected in Venice in 1496, is particularly important.
The only surviving painting that according to documentary proof should be by Verrocchio, an altarpiece of the Madonna and Child with Saints in the Donato de’ Medici Chapel of the cathedral at Pistoia, was not completed by the master himself.

Nicola Simbari (1927-2012)

Italian painter Nicola Simbari was born in San Lucido, Calabria and this beautiful area greatly impacted his Mediterranean paintings: the blues of the ocean and sky and the bright hues of the flowers.
His family moved to Rome when he was young and his father worked there as a Vatican architect.
Rome's art masterpieces so impressed Simbari that, by age 13, he decided to study art and enrolled at the Accademia delle Belle Arti. He opened his first studio in Rome at 22 years of age. Simbari's early works featured scenes from his childhood - gypsies, cafes, fishing villages and the Italian countryside.

Bernardino Licinio (1489-1565) was a painter during the Italian High Renaissance, creating portraits and religious works.
He was born in Bergamo in the town of Lombardy.
It is said that he may have trained in the studio of Giovanni Bellini (1430-1516), a prominent Venetian painter of the Bellini family.
Licinio stayed close to the artistic developments of the Venetian school of painting.
